Rail & Motor Freight

The City of Chippewa Falls is served by two rail lines, the Union Pacific Railroad (UP) and the Canadian National (CN). The UP is classified as a Class I railroad based on their higher level of revenues and their nationwide scope of operation.  CN is a Class II railroad based on their standing as a regional carrier.

The CN is an east-west rail line that runs south of Lake Wissota and the Chippewa River, and crosses the Chippewa River west of Highway 124. This rail line serves the Riverside Industrial Park. There is a rail line interchange facility just east of Highway 124 and north of Park Avenue where the UP and CN intersect. The CN has a rail yard facility on the west side of the city east of USH 53 and north of STH 29.

The UP is a north-south rail line that runs through the City of Chippewa Falls. There are bridges across the Chippewa River both upstream and downstream from the downtown area. A spur line serves the Seymour Cray, Jr. Industrial Park. A second spur is planned to serve industries in Lake Wissota Business Park.

Several local and area lines service Chippewa Falls. Overnight service is available to Chicago and Minneapolis/St Paul. United Parcel Service and Federal Express have offices in Eau Claire providing overnight delivery. Local pickup and delivery services are provided in Chippewa Falls.
